PIERRE VIRET’S CONSOLATION FOR THE PERSECUTED HUGUENOTS
by REBEKAH A. SHEATS in Vol. 1 No. 1-2 / Fall 2015
This article examines the consolation that the Swiss Reformer Pierre Viret offered to the persecuted Huguenots from 1530 to the 1550s. During these years, Viret, living primarily in Lausanne and Geneva, closely
followed the persecution of the Protestants in neighboring France, and offered counsel and comfort to the troubled Huguenots. The consolation he offered these suffering believers is examined and summarized through the Reformer’s letters and writings.
